Moog Music Animoog for iPad

Animoog captures the vast sonic vocabulary of Moog synthesizers and applies it to the modern touch surface paradigm, enabling you to quickly sculpt incredibly fluid and dynamic sounds that live, breathe, and evolve as you play them.

Visually captivating and sonically immersive, Animoog brings iPad based music production to the next level. Whether you are new to synthesis or a professional, Animoog’s unique user interface gives you the power to easily create a visually vibrant and sonically rich universe. It is the ultimate tool for total creative expression!

Animoog’s diverse library of timbres is derived from analog waveforms captured from classic Moog oscillators, both vintage and modern, and run through a boutique’s worth of high-end outboard and analog signal processors. These include modular synth panels, Moogerfooger pedals and more.

Animoog is the newest innovation in creative tools from Moog Music, the legendary electronic musical instrument company founded by Bob Moog in Asheville, NC.

FEATURES:

  • Anisotropic Synth Engine (ASE) – An exciting new Moog technology that allows the user to move dynamically through an X/Y space of unique timbres to create an expressive and constantly evolving soundscape.
  • Timbre page – Assemble unique sounds in the X/Y space from timbres of a wide variety of vintage and modern Moog synthesizers and pedals. Note: this is NOT simple sample playback.
  • Polyphonic Modulation – Simply slide your fingers to control multiple modulation parameters in Animoog right from the keys.
  • Polyphonic Pitch Shifting – Easily manipulate the exact pitch of each note in a chord by rotating or sliding your fingers.
  • Delay Module – A classic analog style ping pong delay.
  • Thick Module – From bit crushing to unison voice detuning and drive, this module adds depth, edge and character to Animoog’s already massive sound palette.
  • Moog Filter – The classic four-pole Moog ladder filter with High Pass, Low Pass and Band Pass modes.
  • Record Module – Record your performance and overdub new layers, or play along live. Transfer recordings between Animoog and any other apps which support AudioCopy/AudioPaste
  • Path Module – Direct ASE through Animoog’s X/Y space to create new expressive and shifting sounds that will blow your mind!
  • Orbit Module – Control the rate of orbit in the X/Y space around the path you created for subtle to insane voice manipulation.
  • Flexible Modulation Matrix – Amp, Filter and Mod Envelopes, LFO with infinitely variable wave shapes and sync, and four super flexible and assignable modulation slots.
  • MIDI in/out – Use your Little Phatty or any other MIDI controller to control Animoog.
  • AudioBus Compatible.

There is also an iPhone version of Animoog available.

  1. Hey the price has gone up. Quite an expensive purchase now. I hope everyone grabbed it in time!

  2. @janogarcia – I hear you. I guess you could take advantage of the Midi In/Out support and plug in a basic keyboard like the AKAI LPK 25 via the camera connector. I know that kind of defeats the object a little but you would get the best of both worlds.

  3. WOOOOW, so this is the famous “Moog sound” with the shaking bass and piercing highs blended inside the warmest filters on earth into a total aural bliss… every preset is ooozing with analog boldness of the 80s and 90s… this is not a toy… its a PRO sounding synth… i have got 15+ synths on my iPad and many more on my Windows PC (VST synths) and they all claim to “emulate analog sound” but to my ears Animoog is the only analog sounding synth for iPad and its sound characteristics beats many PC software synths… it takes founders like Moog Inc. to finally recreate the analog sound of the 80s / 90s… some of the built-in presets instantlly spring Vangelis, J.M. Jarre, Depeche Mode, George Michael. etc. into your ears… Animoog is a real classic and closest to the “virtual analog” concept i ever heard on iPad…

  4. @Janogarcia – missing the point I think – the X-Y pad is pretty much the whole deal. The app is all about manipulating the animation to control the sound…

    1. Hi iPad Music Apps, I actually didn’t mean that the whole XY pad idea is bad, what I miss is an optional/switchable keyboard layout (ala SynthX, GarageBand, Slide Control, MorphWiz…) that takes full advantage of the screen real estate.

  5. I would pay up to $100 for an app like this. I can’t stop creating sound on it. It is by far the most intuitive synth app yet, I should know I think I have them all. But then again this is coming from a guy who’s first synth was a Korg MS-10 in 1978.

  6. Fantastic app and sounds very, very impressive indeed. At .99 cents it is no brainier and it will go up to $30 soon… ;)

  7. Moog is on fire! Sale time for Filtatron and now this? 2 cheap to be good. I’ll go with the filter though and wait for some more reviews.
BTW, Reactable Mobile goes half price also (3.99€). RUN!

      1. Thanks Leslie.
I knew I was going to sin. Just one more €0.79 sin.
2 many apps so little brain…

  8. I can’t understand either the need for such an oversized X/Y pad in detriment of keyboard ergonomics. Why not an option/switch to expand the keyboard or change its layout so that it takes up more space? I don’t want to visualize the sound, I just want to play and have the best experience of it.

  9. Awesome sound, but no background audio/multitasking, no arpeggiator… Why, oh why?
