Aaron Pride of SampleLab has posted a video showing a new magnetometer enabled Virtual MIDI controller app that he made for the RVA Hackathon 2012. Looks to be an interesting concept! The app should be made available soon for free. We’ll let you know once we have more information.
“Using Core MIDI, audio backgrounding, along with the Z axis readings off the magnetometer… negative pole vs. positive pole of the magnets will trigger pitch up or down. Sends pitchwheel, modwheel, and random note commands with poly-aftertouch.”
While not a Virtual MIDI controller, you might also want to check out A Particle Magnetophone – a (currently) free theremin-like app controlled by magnets in a similar way.
