Coming Soon: MidiBridge v1.3 Allows SS25 Wireless Control of CoreMIDI Apps on the iPad!

21 November 2011:
Audeonic Apps have provided us with details of what to expect in the upcoming version 1.3 of MidiBridge – their utility that interconnects all MIDI interfaces (virtual, network & external) on an iOS device. The update includes Akai SynthStation25 Keyboard Controller support to enable you to use the SS25 as a wireless controller and/or interconnect it to all CoreMIDI apps!
What’s coming:
- Akai SynthStation 25 support – use the SS25 as a wireless controller and/or interconnect it to all CoreMIDI apps. A tested example is to use the SS25 to control Animoog and Arctic Keys on the iPad and simultaneously controlling Ableton Live via the network.
- Under iOS5, both the SS25 and original Midi Mobilizer can continue working when MidiBridge is backgrounded, allowing you to tweak your synths whilst playing.
- Drum remap feature, where you can map on either an input or output port all events on channel 10 to a user selectable lower channel (1-4), allowing older drum machines with fixed channel 10 MIDI out to control SampleTank (for example)
- Fast-switch/launch to Virtual MIDI compatible apps (OMAC) by either double-tapping the port of a running app, or from the OMAC applications panel.

MidiBridge is a utility that interconnects all MIDI interfaces (virtual, network and external) on an iOS device at a fraction of the cost of equivalent hardware.
Supported external interfaces include Line 6 Midi Mobilizer I and Line 6 Midi Mobilizer II, IK Multimedia iRig MIDI and all other CoreMIDI devices that are compatible with iOS via the USB camera kit on iPad. For CoreMIDI support, iOS 4.2 or greater is required.

Apple is taking a bit longer than we had hoped to process the update. Hopefully it will be available soon (unless it gets rejected).
In the meantime a KVR reader took a pre-release build of 1.3 for a spin with their SS25 and you can view their findings here
Also, this week, we hope to submit a new free add-on for MidiBridge (although it will work standalone). It’s designed for live players and can be inserted into the MIDI event path between apps or inline into MidiBridge. You’ll be able to remap midi channels, controller numbers, program change numbers and transpose notes. This was developed for the many requests we got from EWI players but can be used by anyone. We’ll let iDesignSound know about it when it’s been submitted.
