Team Popo have announced BeatEvolve – a new music creation toy that works on the same principle as the Tenori-On. BeatEvolve features the usual grid of notes that represent pitch going downwards and time going across. The twist in BeatEvolve is that you can select a set of rules by which your melody will evolve.
This means that you can set your tune going then watch as it develops into something altogether different without any further input. You can completely customise the evolution rules, allowing for loads of experimentation.
In addition to the evolution, you can do all the usual things like set the tempo, change instrument or save your session. You can also flip, shift and rotate the patterns you create.
App Store Description:
Anyone can make music with BeatEvolve! With 31 instruments to choose from, the intuitive interface lets you combine 3 layers of harmonies to create awesome riffs! Select from one of six preset evolution rules or create your own from scratch then sit back and watch as the music changes all by itself.
