Dandy is an intuitive and amazingly sounding sampler/synthesizer for iPhone. It was inspired by Dandy Desmonds composition “Magnetic Loops for 15 Tape Decks” from 1939.

Cute app, but the composition “Magnetic Loops for 15 Tape Decks” is either a remarkable, previously undocumented discovery, or–more likely–a pure fabrication.

it is a recently (2006 in Pune) rediscovered composition by Dandy Desmond from the late 30s. The composition describes a setup of several tape playing machines and some sliders. Furthermore it features a wheel to control the electrical current for the tape playing machines which should correspond in different pitches. Those Tapes should play in loops if activated with a set of push buttons. It’s one of the first interactive compositions known and also one of the first to feature magnetic tapes as sound sources. The original tapes are lost (if they ever existed) but “The Dandy Desmond Doping Tour” (http://dandydesmond.com) created some new loops in the spirit of Dandy Desmond.
