uPhase+ (iPad)
uPhase+ is a virtual instrument geared towards live play. It focuses on giving the player total control over phasing patterns that can be spatialized on up to seven devices.
In uPhase+, you make music by superposing small patterns of different lengths and/or meter to create complex textures out of simple building blocks. The interface provides a way of improvising with the patterns in real time.
Beautifully recorded piano samples, modifiable in real-time via an in-app sample editor (all samples by Bluemorfo). It has many features and shortcuts to enable complex improvisation with spatialized patterns. The app is about creating complex aural illusions out of very simple building blocks. All audio is generated by modifying high quality piano samples.
uPhase+ has two modes – to allow both solo play and networked performances.
- Solo Mode – The solo mode is the app’s lab, where you can research and save patterns and filter presets.
- Networked Devices – The real magic of uPhase starts here. Network devices, place them anywhere in a room (or two!), let the audience interact with your performance (the free uPhase Client is required on each networked device)

- Stereo mix wav recording (Solo Mode only, iPad 2+ recommended for optimal experience)
- AudioCopy to both the Sonoma pasteboard and the general pasteboard allows you to export your recordings to as many other apps as possible, in one tap.

The developer is very responsive and has documented every aspect of the app with videos and other instructions with a detailed tutorial approach. Audio copy has already been added to the 2nd update for the app. You can get a long complex sound going and then play on top of that on the clients or the main server iPad. In addition you can run apps in the background on the other iPads too. You can store your note patterns, sessions, and rhythms you develop so you can access them and change things up on the fly without a glitch. The developer even has a road map for the future development of the app. A very clean and consistent interface.
The developer is also looking into incorporating midi into the app at some point which would bring the app to a whole new level.
If you exit a client app you may have to reconnect with the server again but that’s just a finger press away.

Just a quick note to let everyone know uPhase+ is not universal – iPad only.
uPhase Client is universal, but only allows connection to uPhase+ via wifi.
