Apple announced iOS 6 – the latest update to their mobile operating system – at yesterdays World Wide Developer Conference in San Francisco telling us that it ships this fall and will be packed with over 200 new features. What was most exciting for iOS Musicians, however, was the mention on the SDK slide (see below) that iOS 6 will include “inter-app audio” and “audio and video sampling during playback”!
While Apple hasn’t provided details on what exactly this means, it does indeed sound like we may be in for a treat with the addition of system-level audio routing between audio and music production apps, something that music app developers and iOS musicians have been wanting for a long time now.
Developers can get their hands on the iOS 6 beta right now so it shouldn’t be long before they start digging through the code and details start to come out about what this all means and what possibilities it holds for the future of iOS Music Production.
All I can say is watch this space!
So I am wondering when we might get to find out what all this means?
I love the sound of inter app audio and multi app routing (or whatever it is called), I am also keenly following the audiobus guys. I do believe that these things will open up all the possibilities for us to create a new level of compositions with just the iPad.
But again would like to know when the details will be released.
Anyone have any insight
Thanks
According to a post over at Palm sounds, there will be no inter app audio in ios6.
Audiobus is still on the way ….
Way cool! I feel sorry for the guys that have been working so hard on Audiobus though. I hope Apple lets them put the product in the App store anyway (it’s always nice to have options!).
