Splice has introduced a new model that can change how people purchase plugins.
Their new system is called Rent-to-own – you pay $10 per month until you pay the full price of a plugin.
And first plugin they have launched with Rent-to-own system is Serum synth which is excellent plugin but pretty expensive – it is $189. So it would take $19 months to pay the license in full.
If you compare this model to the Slate’s everything bundle subscription – there are lots of similarities. In case of the Slate you pay monthly fee ($25) and at the end of the 12 months you get $200 coupon to purchase the plugins from the bundle for unlimited usage.
How Rent-to-own works?
From Splice blog:
“Our flexible plan lets you try Serum free for three days before you even make a payment. For only $9.99 each month, you can continue using the full version of Serum on a pay-as-you-go basis, with no extra costs or fees. Every payment you make works towards paying off the plugin’s retail cost, with your final payment granting you a lifetime license. Not using Serum as much as you had planned? You can stop payments at any time, and resume to pick up exactly where you left off whenever you’re ready.
Serum also integrates directly with the Splice desktop app to give you seamless updates to the latest versions. This means you won’t get stuck with an old, unsupported version of the synth. No longer will you try to collaborate and find yourself with frozen tracks and an outdated version. Splice will deliver the newest versions straight to you, with simple, one-click updates.”
