Last Updated on June 17, 2025 by IDS Team

As a follow up to our list of mastering plugins last month, we’ve now developed a complete list of saturation plugins. Smart Saturation Plugins

Baby Audio TAIP

TAIP from Baby Audio is an AI powered saturation plugin. Now, that may sound like an oxymoron, given the contrast between AI and the vintage, analog association with tape saturation. However, TAIP doesn’t compromise these qualities, it just enhances them. TAIP understands fully the qualities that make tape saturation popular and has dedicated sliders for qualities such as noise, wear, and glue, meaning it’s perfect for making your mix more organic and cohesive. Additionally, it’s simple yet effective interface offers single and dual model options, the ability to monitor drive and mix, as well as other sliders for presence, high shape, and low shape. This is all about rounding out your track – intelligently. TAIP costs 99 USD and comes in AAX, AU, VST, and VST3 formats. It requires MacOS 10.11 or Windows 10 (64 bit) and up.

Plasma from iZotope

Plasma is another smart saturation plugin that goes by the method of analysing sound and then applying saturation to your mix. It isn’t entirely automatic though – the interface comes with an EQ curve, attack, and release knobs to allow you to make the final tweaks to your sound. It also has an overdrive slider and a flux saturator knob which allows you to choose how much of the smart Flux Saturation technology you apply to your track. This analyse and apply model is common in the world of AI saturation plugins, but from iZotope, you can be assured this is smooth, easily and broadly applicable, and is a great entry point on the learning curve to saturation. Comes in AAX, AU, and VST formats Requires Windows 10 or MacOS Ventura and up. Plasma costs 56.17 GBP.

Final Thoughts

As this list shows, saturation can have many more versatile and creative uses than just making your tracks sound better. Using these plugins will help you get deeper into the audio recording process that the signal chain emulated on your DAW is actually mimicking. This will sow you the differences present with the golden age of analog studio recording and how they affect and influence sound.

Either way, there is something here for everyone, from indie-inspired cassette emulators to technically detailed pre-amps and everything in between.
